welcome

Smoke-Free Mecklenburg is a local grassroots coalition of health care professionals, advocacy groups and individuals committed to bringing smoke-free restaurants, bars and workplaces to Mecklenburg County.

After years of hard work, Smoke Free Mecklenburg volunteers and people all across North Carolina can finally breathe a sigh of relief. On May 19th, 2009, we made history when Governor Beverly Perdue signed into law a bill which will prohibit smoking in all restaurants and bars across North Carolina. Although the new law will not protect all workers from secondhand smoke exposure, it is a tremendous accomplishment and has made a strong statement across the country in support of smoke-free air regulations, particularly in tobacco growing states.

UPDATE
Please visit www.smokefree.nc.gov where you will find:
  • Information on secondhand smoke
  • Details on what is covered under the new law
  • Tools for business owners to utilize as they go smoke free
  • Local Health Department contacts
  • A link to an on line form where violations of the new law can be registered after January 2nd, 2010
Thank you for helping North Carolina become a smoke-free state!
